Modernizing Uruguay's official lottery games across web and mobile

La Banca needed to evolve the digital experience behind Uruguay's official lottery games. Over 18 months, Alabama worked across web, mobile, backend integrations, authentication and internal management tools, and redesigned the UX and UI of the games themselves.

01 / The challenge

Multiple games. Multiple channels. One experience.

La Banca operates some of Uruguay's official lottery and gaming products, including lottery games, digital scratch cards and Keno.

The challenge was to bring those experiences together across web and mobile while working with an existing technology ecosystem behind them.

That meant solving several problems at the same time.

  1. 01

    Web + Mobile

Create consistent experiences across browser, iOS and Android.

  2. 02

    Game UX

Redesign how players interact with different types of games, each with its own rules and mechanics.

  3. 03

    Core Integration

Connect the new digital channels with the systems responsible for the gaming operation.

  4. 04

    Authentication

Modernize the authentication layer shared by the digital ecosystem.

  5. 05

    Operations

Build the internal capabilities needed to manage the platform behind the customer experience.

02 / The approach

Start with the player. Work all the way back to the core.

The visible part of the project was the gaming experience.

But getting that experience right required working through every layer behind it.

We redesigned the UX and UI of the games first, simplifying flows and creating a more consistent interaction model across products and devices.

From there, the engineering work connected those experiences with La Banca's existing systems, authentication infrastructure and operational tools.

The goal was not to treat each game as an isolated application. It was to build a digital experience that could support different games while remaining consistent as a platform.

03 / The solution

More than the games players see.

Six streams of work across product design, frontend, backend, identity and operations.

01

Web Platform

A new web experience for accessing and playing Uruguay's official digital games.

The frontend was built in Angular, with a shared design language across lottery products, digital scratch cards and Keno.

02

Mobile Apps

Native-like mobile experiences for iOS and Android built with Ionic and Capacitor.

The apps brought the same gaming ecosystem to mobile while adapting interactions and navigation to the channel.

03

UX & UI Redesign

The games themselves were redesigned from the interaction level up.

Different mechanics needed to feel part of the same ecosystem without forcing every game into the same interface.

The work covered navigation, gameplay flows, information hierarchy and responsive behavior across web and mobile.

Core System Integration

The new digital channels needed to work with La Banca's existing core systems.

Backend services built with Quarkus handled the integration between customer-facing experiences and the systems supporting the gaming operation.

05

Authentication

The authentication infrastructure was also updated as part of the modernization.

We evolved the existing Keycloak-based authentication server to support the requirements of the new web and mobile ecosystem.

06

Management Modules

Not everything happens on the player side.

We also built internal management modules that support the operation behind the digital platform, connecting product delivery with the teams responsible for running it.

04 / The results

One gaming ecosystem across web and mobile.

Over 18 months, La Banca's digital gaming experience evolved across multiple layers of the platform.

The visible result was a new experience for players. But behind it was a broader platform effort spanning product design, frontend, backend, identity, operations and cloud infrastructure.

WEB + MOBILE

MULTIPLE GAME TYPES
lottery games, digital scratch cards and Keno in one ecosystem
REDESIGNED UX
a new interaction model across the gaming portfolio
CORE INTEGRATION

MODERNIZED AUTHENTICATION
an updated identity layer supporting the new platform
OPERATIONAL TOOLS
management capabilities beyond the customer-facing applications

05 / The bigger story

Gaming products can look simple from the outside.

Behind every interaction sits authentication, game logic, operational tooling, integrations and systems that already exist.

This project required working across all of those layers while keeping the experience simple for the player.

For Alabama, it is another example of the kind of work we tend to do best: multiple channels, existing systems, complex integrations and a product experience that still has to feel simple.
