Building Abitab's digital wallet platform
Abitab set out to bring many of the financial operations already present in its ecosystem into a single mobile experience. Alabama worked across mobile, financial flows, API gateway and authentication to build a wallet for payments, deposits, transfers, bill payments and everyday money management.

01 / The challenge
Many financial operations. One simple experience.
A wallet looks simple from the user's side.
Behind it, every action involves identity, balances, validations, transactions and integrations with existing financial services.
The product needed to bring several different operations into one consistent mobile experience.
- 01
Payments
Use the wallet to make everyday payments.
- 02
Deposits
Add funds and manage available balance.
- 03
Transfers
Move money between users and accounts.
- 04
Bill Payments
Pay services directly from the application.
- 05
Identity & Access
Securely authenticate users and protect financial operations.
02 / The approach
Build the platform behind the wallet.
We treated the mobile experience and the infrastructure behind it as one product.
The solution was structured around three main layers.
The application handled the customer journeys. The gateway provided a controlled entry point into the services behind each financial operation. The authentication layer centralized identity and access instead of pushing security concerns into individual features.
That structure gave the different wallet modules a common foundation as the product evolved.
- MOBILE EXPERIENCE
- API GATEWAY
- IDENTITY & AUTHENTICATION
03 / The solution
One wallet. Multiple financial journeys.
Five work streams across mobile, financial journeys, integration and identity.
Mobile App
A cross-platform mobile application built with Angular, Ionic and Capacitor. The experience brought the wallet's different capabilities together through a common navigation and interaction model across iOS and Android.
ANGULAR · IONIC · CAPACITORPayments & Bill Payments
Users could initiate payments and pay everyday services directly from the wallet. These journeys connected the mobile experience with the transaction capabilities behind Abitab's broader ecosystem.
PAYMENTS · SERVICES · TRANSACTIONSDeposits & Transfers
The wallet included the flows required to fund accounts, manage balances and move money. Each operation coordinated user interaction with the validations and services required behind the scenes.
DEPOSITS · TRANSFERS · BALANCESAPI Gateway
The mobile application communicated with backend capabilities through a dedicated API gateway. This provided a consistent integration boundary and centralized routing, access and security concerns across the different wallet modules.
API GATEWAY · APIs · INTEGRATIONIdentity & Authentication
Authentication was designed as a platform capability. A centralized authentication server handled identity, sessions and secure access to the wallet's financial operations.

04 / The results
A digital wallet built across the full stack.
The initiative delivered the core functional and technical layers of the wallet, from customer-facing financial journeys to the infrastructure supporting them.
The initiative reached pre-production with the core wallet experience and supporting platform capabilities implemented.
For Alabama, the project added hands-on experience building a fintech product where mobile UX, financial transactions, identity and enterprise integrations all had to work as one system.
- MOBILE WALLET
- cross-platform experience across iOS and Android
- FINANCIAL OPERATIONS
- payments, deposits, transfers and bill payments
- INTEGRATION LAYER
- gateway connecting mobile product with backend services
- CENTRALIZED IDENTITY
- authentication and access designed as part of the platform
05 / The bigger story
Financial products are rarely just applications.
The interface users see is only the last layer of a system involving identity, transactions, integrations and existing financial infrastructure.
Abitab Wallet brought those layers together in a single product, from the experience in the user's hand to the platform capabilities behind every operation.
